Keeping Your Dishwasher Clean

by Grand Appliance

GE Dishwashers

Keep your dishwasher performing at its best with these tips and tricks by our experts!

General tips

  • It’s important to run your dishwasher at least once per week to help keep the motor seals lubricated.

  • The entering water temperature should be at least 120 degrees, but not more than 150 degrees. Check the water temperature using a candy or meat thermometer. Turn on the hot water faucet nearest the dishwasher, place the thermometer in a glass, and let the water run continuously into the glass until the temperature stops rising. Adjust your water heater up or down as needed.

  • There’s no need to pre-rinse! Just scrape off the large pieces of food.

  • Use a good quality detergent. To avoid spotting, use a rinse aid like Jet Dry

Hard water issues?

  • If you have hard water, adding detergent boosters with your typical detergent can help remove residue and hard water film.

It’s easy to overlook the dishwasher when it comes to cleaning

  • Clean and freshen your dishwasher with a dishwasher cleaner, and or sanitize cycle after loads.

Check the bottom of the dishwasher for any debris

  • Some dishwasher models have a removable filter. To check the ultra-fine filter, remove the bottom rack. Twist the filter counterclockwise and lift. Rinse with hot water and reinstall.
