If you've been considering a kitchen remodel but haven’t started the process yet because you're overwhelmed just thinking about how to remodel a kitchen, then we’re here to calm your fears and help you through it!
Our team at Grand Appliance and TV has seen and helped on numerous kitchen remodels, and although they may appear to be a lot to deal with, we know from experience that they are easy to manage with a few tips. Whether you’re worried about the mess it will make in your home or just not having a cooking space to prepare your food in, let us share some advice with you so that you know how to survive a kitchen remodel with ease.
1. Pack Up the Kitchen
Before the kitchen remodel begins, you’ll need to remove all your dishware, utensils, appliances, everything on the countertops, and anything else residing in the cooking area. Whether you are planning on storing these items away in a storage garage, home office, or somewhere else in the house, make sure that wherever their temporary home is, that it’s out of the way. You wouldn’t want any appliances or items set up in a pathway where family members could easily trip over a cord or run into a heavy box. Consider storing the smaller items in an out-of-use guest bedroom and the larger appliances against an empty wall space next to an electrical outlet so you continue to use them during the renovation.
2. Don’t Stress Over Cleanliness
If the loudness of the kitchen remodel doesn’t bother you, then a little dust shouldn’t either. Okay, there will probably be a lot of dust floating around and it won’t just sit in your kitchen. Doors will open, the wind will blow the dust throughout the house, and people as well as animals will step in it and trail their prints wherever they go. Unfortunately, cleaning it up will just make you go crazy because it’s bound to get dirty again the next day (or even next hour). We suggest taking a deep breath and just being alright with a little mess for a couple days at a time.
3. Figure Out Your Food Situation
Depending on what type of work you’re getting done to your kitchen, a remodel can take anywhere from a couple days to a couple of months. That’s a really long time to be eating out ALL THE TIME and a lot of money to spend. And with a global pandemic on our hands? No thank you!
The best way to handle the food situation is to set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in your home. It could be the garage, living room, or anywhere else you might be able to store your refrigerator and other kitchen appliances for the time being. And because you won’t have a lot of space for prepping meals or cooking, having something that will heat up your chilled food, like this GE profile countertop microwave oven, will make life during a kitchen remodel much easier.
And if you’re worried about dirty dishes, you can either use disposable plates and utensils, or just use the bathroom sink! It may sound strange, but it sure beats going outside and using the hose!
