As we look forward to getting back into the swing of things, we can also look back and ask how much has changed. Much of the country spent more time at home over the past year and a half, which resulted in taking steps to make living spaces a little more comfortable. That included changes in habits, like cleaning, cooking or organizing more, as well as home improvements and purchasing new appliances. AHAM recently surveyed more than 4,000 U.S. residents in December 2020 to find out what new appliances they purchased during COVID.
Â
Key Findings
32% of respondents made small appliance purchases. Those appliances were likely being put to good use, as nearly half (48%) of respondents reported cooking at home more often during the pandemic. 42%Â percent of them expect to continue cooking at home more after COVID passes.
Â
19% of respondents bought major home appliances, with refrigerators and washers being the most popular purchases. Microwave ovens were close behind, followed by dryers, dishwashers, cooktop / ranges, freezers (of course), and interestingly, wine refrigerators.
Â
We also found many who responded to AHAM’s survey most likely took advantage of bundled savings and purchased more than one appliance.Â
