Kitchen Inspirations: Atlanta, Georgia Historic Kitchen by Design Galleria ft. Sub-Zero & Wolf Appliances

by Olly Mason

When you think of a “pinch of panache,” what comes to your mind? For designer Matthew Quinn and his team, the phrase captures the essence of traditional charm and the function of modern convenience. At least, that’s how Quinn described the final feel of this Atlanta luxury kitchen remodel, whose owners requested a reconceptualized look that would be true to the home’s 1961 construction.

See how Quinn turned the vision into a reality using resources from the past and the present, including a kitchen suite featuring Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.

About This Kitchen Design by Design Galleria

A lot can happen in 60 years, and the outdated bones of this Atlanta kitchen were a testament to that notion. Before Quinn and his team took on this project, the kitchen was cramped, lacked fluidity, and felt stale. What Quinn’s clients wanted for this space were distinguished cooking and cleaning zones, as well as a layout where two people can cook together. The clients also emphasized a place that instantly felt like an inviting space where the entire family could coexist.

With the blueprint in mind, Quinn and his partners created a beautiful, fresh, and open kitchen area in white, brass, and blue — the client’s favorite color. Key elements include a coffered ceiling that flows between the adjacent rooms for subtle cohesiveness, as well as a new wall that serves dual purpose as a room separator and a place for new, premium appliances from Sub-Zero and Wolf.

The design would go on to win 1st place in the Traditional category in the Kitchen Design Contest 2017–18. The contest is an annual celebration of high-end designs showcasing the Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove family of luxury appliances. Keep reading to see how Quinn and his team achieved the winning look using these fine products.

How Quinn Uses a Wolf Hood for Vintage Charm

Rather than completely hide this kitchen’s ventilation, Quinn used the opportunity to expertly tie together the classic combination of marble white, blue, and gold. The Wolf custom hood insert used for this project is decadently forged in a brassy finish with hand-hammered details for an added layer of luxury. It’s truly a moment, and it brings together the metallic accents featured on the hardware on custom Dutch inset cabinetry.

This high-end hood liner comes with up to 1,500-CFM ventilation and soft, halogen lighting that illuminates at two power levels. It also features smart sensors that automatically engage once they detect temperature settings over 200 degrees.

Quinn Selects a Wolf Range for Gold Standards

Of course, no gourmet kitchen is complete without a pro-style range. Wolf is an industry leader, providing professional designs and powerful outputs that are restaurant-worthy. For Quinn’s clients, the Wolf Legacy pro-style range used in this design delivers just that.

Keeping to theme, this 48” dual fuel range provides four burners — two on each side where one person can comfortably prepare meals — centered by a powerful infrared griddle. Altogether, the cooking setup provides 20,000 BTUs of firepower and up to 30,000 BTUs of infrared griddle heat to cook up menus inspired by five-star restaurants. Other amenities include dual-stacked burners for easy cleanup and convection baking.

Quinn customized this professional range with brass hardware to subtly continue the metallic motif highlighted in this kitchen.

A Wolf Warming Drawer Provides Clever Versatility

Can you spot the warming drawer used in this kitchen island? To hide the appliance, Quinn fitted the front in a custom panel to match the Light Blue paint from Farrow & Ball. The addition is a convenient add-on that allows the clients to keep dinner entrées warm and ready at temperatures between 80 and 200 degrees. The warming drawer can also be used to keep dinner plates warm for dinner or to heat up towels for a luxury dining experience.

Quinn Adds Style & Performance with a Sub-Zero Refrigerator

An open kitchen can easily be disrupted by a large appliance — unless it blends in with its surroundings. Case in point, the Sub-Zero bottom-freezer refrigerator Quinn used in this remodel. Like the Wolf warming drawer, this luxury refrigerator is fitted in custom cabinetry to help give the space a bigger feel. Matching brass hardware is the perfect finishing touch to make the appliance indistinguishable from the adjacent cabinets.

What’s not missing is the experience. True to Sub-Zero, this panel-ready refrigerator delivers the highest caliber of quality and food preservation. NASA-inspired air purification, magnetic-sealed doors, and advanced temperature control with one-degree setpoint accuracy ensure every hors d’oeuvre, entrée, and dessert stored inside is treated with the best technology.

Together with Lauren DeLoach and Yong Pak, Matthew Quinn brings a majestic illustration to life in this modern adaptation of a classic kitchen. Its intelligent approach to an open kitchen fuses practicality and pristine presentation into a kitchen space where every family member and guest can work and dine together. Quinn’s winning plan perfectly demonstrates the quality materials and high craftsmanship the Sub-Zero/Wolf/Cove lines provide with every appliance they make.
